Play Synopsis:

Beverly Frasier is in the process of trying to organize a milestone birthday party for her mother in her well-appointed, upper middle class home, but everything seems to be working against her. Her husband tries hard but keeps bringing home the wrong root vegetables. Her sister just lounges around eating her expensive cheese, drinking wine and not helping at all. Her daughter’s late getting home from practice, and her attorney brother may not make it at all. And the guest list just keeps expanding…

Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, FAIRVIEW is a searing and deeply funny examination of families, drama, family drama and the insidiousness of white supremacy.

BEVERLY (40’s, Black female presenting) upper-middle class, the responsible one. She cares deeply about her family and feels responsible for taking care of everyone.

JASMINE (30’s-40’s, Black female presenting) Beverly’s sister. The fun one. Always ready with some family gossip.

DAYTON (40’s, Black male presenting) Beverly’s husband. Seemingly laid back and carefree. Pays more attention than he gets credit for and is a good partner to Beverly.

KEISHA (18+ to play late teens, Black, female presenting) Beverly and Dayton’s daughter. Overachiever and tired of it. Self-aware and unwilling to accept the stereotypical narrative being thrust upon her.

SUZE + other roles (adult, age open, White female presenting) Most socially aware of the friend group. Tries to educate her friends as nicely as possible while avoiding the reality of her own privilege.

MACK + other roles (20’s-40’s, White male presenting) He’s pretty chill. Insightful but a little shady. Knows how to keep a convo going.

JIMBO + other roles (adult, age open, White male presenting) Loudest one in the room. All American man. Loves nonsensical hypotheticals.

BETS + other roles (adult, age open, White female presenting) She’s very earnest. New-ish to American culture. Loves to have a good time.
