About Us

Vagabond Theatre, current home of Vagabond Players

“The Vagabond Players is a group of artists, actors, and authors interested in stimulating and developing new and artistic methods of producing, acting, and writing for the American stage and especially in introducing to the Baltimore public those newer ideals which have lately become an intrinsic part of dramatic aspiration — principally freedom and free experiment”
— Vagabond Players program, 1916

Vagabond Players, Inc. is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit theatre organization which aims to provide a diverse selection of artistically excellent dramatic productions and to gain broad participation in its offerings from the Baltimore theatrical community.

The organization has operated continuously for over 100 years making Vagabond Players the oldest continuously operating community theater in the United States. Founded in the early 1900’s as a part of the vanguard of America’s “Little Theater” movement, the organization has called its current location, the Vagabond Theatre, home for over 40 years. We have been an important part of the rich history of Fells Point and Baltimore City’s cultural landscape.

Head over to the history section to read more about our history and the locations that we have performed at over the past 100 years.

“What keeps the Vagabonds going is undying passion. This troupe has lasted for generations, continually attracting new artists to the stage and making them as passionate about the theater as their predecessors. In fact, that passion drove them for over 60 years before they found their permanent home in Fell’s Point — this is a company that was truly made of vagabonds, performing in vacant storefronts, church basements, and buildings with no heat in the dead of winter. When you catch a show, you’ll understand why they’ve persevered, and you’ll be sure that they’ll still be raising the curtain in another 100 years.”
